When Should You Transcend? Zone 300 and Beyond Explained

When should you transcend in Clicker Heroes? For your first reset, the best time is soon after you beat the Zone 300 boss. Later resets depend on how many Ancient Souls you can earn and how fast you move through zones.

After your first Transcendence, a useful early-game rule is to complete three or four ascensions that increase your next Ancient Soul reward. When Transcendent Power (TP) nears 24%, your zone speed and Outsider setup matter more than a fixed count.

These are guides, not strict rules. Below, you’ll learn when to keep going, when to ascend, and when a full Transcendence makes sense. For more on the first milestone, see our guide to the best time to transcend.

When Should You Transcend in Clicker Heroes? The Quick Answer

Your best move depends on where you are in the game.

Your situation What to do
You have not beaten Zone 300 Keep climbing and use normal ascensions.
You just beat the Zone 300 boss Plan your first Transcendence soon.
Your TP is below about 24% Aim for three or four ascensions that raise your next Ancient Soul reward.
Your TP is about 24% or higher Check the Outsider calculator’s zone targets and your actual progress.
One boss has stopped your run Try ascending before you transcend.
Several ascensions add little progress Check your next Ancient Soul reward and consider transcending.
You can no longer keep two monsters per zone late in the game Review your Borb level and your next Transcendence target.

A simple way to remember it: Ascend when one run has slowed down. Transcend when the larger cycle of ascensions is no longer paying off.

Your First Transcendence

The first big milestone is Zone 300. Beat Woodchip, the Rodent, to unlock Transcendence.

You may be able to clear a few more zones with ease. That’s fine. But there is little reason to spend hours forcing your way much farther before your first reset. Transcending opens the Outsider system, which helps your later runs grow much faster.

Transcending Again

After the first reset, forget about a fixed zone target. Instead, look at the “Transcend for +X” reward in the Outsiders or Transcendence tab.

Early on, players often wait for three or four ascensions that increase that reward. Ascensions that only help you rebuild do not count toward this rule.

Late-Game Transcendence

At about 24% TP, the usual three-to-four rule becomes less useful. Zone speed, monster count, and your Outsider setup matter more. This is a good time to use Driej’s Outsider Calculator as a planning tool.

What Does Transcending Do in Clicker Heroes?

Transcendence is a larger reset than Ascension. It trades your current progress for Ancient Souls and stronger long-term growth.

When you transcend, you lose gold, hero levels, Hero Souls, Ancients, Relics, and your current zone progress. You keep key permanent features, including Ancient Souls and Outsiders. Rubies and Auto Clickers also stay with you.

Ancient Souls and Outsiders

Ancient Souls are the currency you earn through Transcendence. Their total is tied to the Hero Souls you have sacrificed over your time playing.

You spend Ancient Souls to level Outsiders. Each Outsider helps in a different way. Some improve Hero Soul rewards. Others help with Ancient costs or zone speed.

These upgrades give you a reason to start over. You may return to early zones after the reset, but you can climb through them with stronger long-term bonuses.

For more on the system, read our Clicker Heroes Transcendence Guide.

Why a Reset Can Help You Reach Higher Zones

Think about a run where every new boss takes longer than the last. You could keep farming gold, but each small gain costs more time.

Now imagine restarting with better Outsiders. You rebuild your Ancients, gain Hero Souls faster, and reach your old best zone with less work. That is the goal of a good Transcendence.

The reset itself is not the reward. Faster progress after the reset is.

How Do You Unlock Transcendence?

You unlock it by defeating Woodchip, the Rodent, the boss at Zone 300.

Clicker Heroes visual guide showing the Zone 300 milestone and the Transcendence button used for the first reset.

Once you win, open the Transcendence or Outsiders tab, marked by the Ancient Soul symbol. You can view your Outsiders and the Transcend option there. Check the reward shown before you confirm the reset.

What If You Cannot Reach Zone 300?

You do not need to get there in a single run. Use Ascension to earn Hero Souls, then spend some on useful Ancients. Each new run can take you farther.

Try this approach:

  1. Upgrade heroes until bosses become hard to beat.
  2. Ascend to claim your Hero Souls.
  3. Spend Hero Souls on Ancients that fit your build.
  4. Push to a new highest zone and repeat.

You can also use our zone progression guide if you keep getting stuck.

Should You Transcend as Soon as You Reach Zone 300?

In most cases, yes soon after you beat the boss. The first Transcendence is special because it unlocks your next major set of upgrades.

There is no need to stop in the middle of a fast push. If bosses still fall at once, a short climb beyond Zone 300 is fine. But do not grind for hours just to add a few more zones.

Before Your First Reset

Check these items first:

  • You defeated Woodchip at Zone 300.
  • You opened the Transcendence screen and reviewed your Ancient Soul reward.
  • You know that your Hero Souls and Ancients will reset.
  • You have a plan for your first Outsider upgrades.
  • You saved or exported your game, if your version offers that option.

A little planning makes the first rebuild much easier.

When Should You Transcend Again After Your First Reset?

This is where many players get confused. The advice to “transcend after three or four ascensions” does not mean three or four total ascensions after every reset.

At first, your ascensions may only bring you back to the level of progress you reached before. During that time, the next Ancient Soul reward may still show +0.

Start counting once your next Transcendence begins offering new Ancient Souls. Then aim for about three or four reward-building ascensions, as long as your progress still makes sense.

How to Count Ancient Soul-Generating Ascensions

Open the Outsiders or Transcendence tab and look for “Transcend for +X.” This is the extra Ancient Soul reward you would get from transcending now.

Clicker Heroes Transcendence screen highlighting the pending Ancient Soul reward and how to track gains between ascensions.

If it stays at +0, keep building. When it rises above zero, you have reached the point where your current cycle can earn new Ancient Souls.

Here is a made-up example to show how to count. The rewards are not predictions of what your game will show.

Ascension after your last Transcendence New Ancient Souls shown Count toward the rule
1 +0 No
2 +0 No
3 +1 Yes — first
4 +3 Yes — second
5 +5 Yes — third
6 +6 Yes — fourth

In this example, the player has done six ascensions but only four have raised the next Ancient Soul reward. If progress is slowing, this is a fair time to transcend.

If the player is still clearing zones very fast, there may be value in continuing a bit longer.

Why the Rule Works

The early ascensions in a new cycle help you rebuild. Later ones push your Hero Soul gains past the level needed for new Ancient Souls.

Waiting for a few of those stronger ascensions helps you avoid two problems: resetting too early for a tiny reward and staying too long for slow gains.

This rule is a player-tested guide, not a fixed game requirement. You can see the same advice in the Clicker Heroes Wiki’s general tips.

How Many Ancient Souls Should You Get Before Transcending?

There is no single Ancient Soul target that suits every player.

Your next reward depends on the Hero Souls counted toward your Transcendence, along with the progress you have already made. As your total grows, earning each added Ancient Soul takes more Hero Souls.

So a set number, such as 20 or 50, does not tell the whole story.

Compare Rewards With Time Spent

Look at two made-up choices:

Choice New Ancient Souls Time spent Average per hour
Reset after a shorter cycle 20 5 hours 4
Keep pushing 26 10 hours 2.6

The longer cycle earns more Ancient Souls in one reset. But the shorter one earns them at a faster rate.

These are only examples. In a real game, you must also allow time to rebuild after each Transcendence. Still, the lesson is useful: More Ancient Souls in one reset does not always mean better progress.

For more detail on the rewards, read Ancient Souls Per Transcension.

Watch for Smaller Gains

Your current cycle may be near its limit when:

  • It takes much longer to beat each new zone.
  • Several ascensions barely raise your highest zone ever (HZE).
  • Your next Ancient Soul reward grows very slowly.
  • A new Outsider setup could help more than another long push.

Do not judge your run by one hard boss. Look for a pattern over several ascensions.

How Does Transcendent Power Affect Your Timing?

Transcendent Power (TP) helps primal bosses give you more Hero Souls as you reach higher zones. That makes it easier to level Ancients and push farther.

Your TP grows with the total Ancient Souls you have earned. It does not depend on whether you spend those souls on Borb, Ponyboy, or another Outsider.

In the standard game, TP approaches a limit of 25%. Growth slows as you get near that limit.

Why Players Watch the 24% Mark

Below about 24% TP, the three-to-four reward-building ascension rule is a simple way to plan resets.

Clicker Heroes Transcendent Power tooltip beside a guide explaining why 24% TP changes reset strategy.

At about 24%, you are close to the upper part of the TP curve. From here, it pays to focus more on your Outsiders and your ability to keep clearing zones at a good pace.

Do not transcend just because you reach 24% TP. It tells you to change how you make the decision, not to reset on the spot.

What to Do at 24% TP

Check your current highest zone, next Ancient Soul reward, and monsters per zone. Then compare your results with the estimates from an Outsider calculator.

One important note: Driej’s calculator says its end-of-transcension estimates are built for active pushing. If you use an idle build, the target may not fit your actual speed. Treat it as a guide, not a promise.

How Can You Tell When a Run Has Reached Its Limit?

A slow boss fight often means it is time to ascend, not transcend. A full Transcendence makes more sense when you have tried several ascensions and your whole cycle is losing speed.

Here are three useful signs.

Your Highest Zone Ever Barely Moves

Suppose your last few ascensions added only a handful of zones. You have leveled Ancients and tried better hero upgrades, but each push now takes much longer.

That is a stronger warning sign than losing one boss fight.

Your Next Ancient Soul Reward Hardly Changes

Check the number in your Transcendence tab. If another long ascension adds little to the reward, you may get more value from starting a new cycle.

Compare the gain with the time you spent earning it.

Your Zone Speed Drops

If you used to clear zones almost at once but now have to wait or farm gold often, your build may be near its useful limit.

At higher zones, there is another number to watch: monsters per zone.

Why Do Monsters Per Zone Matter?

Every zone asks you to beat a set number of monsters before moving on. Fewer monsters mean faster progress, especially when your heroes can defeat them at once.

When Should You Transcend?

For advanced play, a common goal is to keep the count at two monsters per zone.

What Borb and Kumawakamaru Do

Kumawakamaru is an Ancient that helps lower the number of monsters needed in each zone. Borb is an Outsider that boosts Kumawakamaru’s effect.

Borb

They work together to help you move through zones with less delay.

If you have kept two monsters per zone for a long stretch and the count rises to three or more, your progress may slow. At high TP, this can be a useful sign that your current transcension is nearing its limit.

Still, check your Ancient Soul reward and calculator target before you reset. A higher monster count by itself is not always enough reason.

Should You Ascend or Transcend?

When Should You Transcend?

Both actions reset progress, but they solve different problems.

Feature Ascend Transcend
Main reward Hero Souls Ancient Souls and TP growth
Gold, heroes, and current zones Reset Reset
Hero Souls already owned Keep Sacrifice
Ancients and their levels Keep Reset
Ancient Souls and Outsiders Keep Keep
How often you use it Many times per transcension Less often
Best time One run slows down Several ascensions stop paying off

Ascend When One Run Becomes Slow

If a boss stops you but your next batch of Hero Souls will let you upgrade Ancients, Ascension is often the right move.

You can then use those upgrades to push farther on the next run. For tips on earning this resource, see our Hero Souls guide.

Transcend When the Whole Cycle Slows Down

If several ascensions fail to bring good gains, the larger reset becomes more useful. The new Ancient Souls can improve your Outsiders and make your next cycle stronger.

Remember: Transcendence does not replace Ascension. You will still ascend many times between major resets.

What Do You Lose and Keep When You Transcend?

The reset is big, but it does not remove all your permanent progress.

Resource or feature What happens after Transcendence?
Gold and hero levels Reset
Current zones Reset
Hero Souls Sacrificed
Ancients and their levels Reset
Relics and Forge Cores Reset
Ancient Souls Kept; new rewards are added
Outsiders Kept unless you choose to respec their points
Rubies and Auto Clickers Kept
Achievements and clans Kept
Mercenaries and their quests Kept, though access may be locked for a short time on PC
Gilds earned from zones Must be earned again
Purchased gilds Restored in stages as you earn normal gilds

On PC, mercenaries are kept through Transcendence but can stay locked until you reach the normal unlock point again or ascend once. Mobile handling differs.

Purchased gilds are not simply lost. They return bit by bit as you earn gilds from zone progress. This is different from gilds you gained through normal play, which you earn again.

Should You Respec Outsiders?

The “Respec on Transcension” option lets you move your Ancient Soul points to different Outsiders when you reset. Unlike an Ancient respec, an Outsider respec returns all the Ancient Souls you spent.

It can help if your old build no longer suits your progress. For example, you may need more help with monsters per zone later in the game.

You do not need to change points at random, though. Check a current calculator recommendation before choosing your new setup.

How to Prepare for Transcendence and Recover Faster

A good reset plan only takes a few minutes.

1. Check Your Ancient Soul Reward

Look at “Transcend for +X.” Compare it with what you saw after your past ascensions.

Ask one question: Is the extra reward worth rebuilding now, or can I still earn more with a short push?

2. Plan Your Outsider Points

Use Driej’s Outsider Calculator to review a possible setup. Check its assumptions, especially if you play mostly idle.

You can also read our guide to spending Ancient Souls for help with Outsider choices.

3. Rebuild With Short Ascensions

After a reset, your early runs are about earning Hero Souls again. For a newer player, an ascension around Zone 130 can be a useful first goal once you have the Ascension skill. If you reach that point with ease, keep going until progress slows.

Do not treat Zone 130 as a fixed target for every run. As your bonuses grow, you will move through far more zones before needing to ascend.

4. Play in a Way That Suits Your Time

An active build focuses on clicks and can use Auto Clickers to speed up progress. An idle build uses bonuses that work while you are not clicking. A hybrid build uses both at different points in a run.

The right choice depends on how often you play. Just keep in mind that some calculator zone estimates assume an active or hybrid strategy.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

A few errors can make Transcendence feel slower than it should.

  • Resetting for almost no new Ancient Souls: Check your reward before you click. A weak reward may not cover the time needed to rebuild.
  • Waiting far too long at your first Zone 300 clear: Unlock your first Outsiders instead of grinding for hours to gain a few extra zones.
  • Counting every ascension: Start the three-to-four count only when your next Ancient Soul reward rises above zero.
  • Treating 24% TP as a reset button: At this point, switch to zone targets and progress checks.
  • Ignoring monsters per zone late in the game: Review your Borb setup if you can no longer keep the count at two.
  • Copying a calculator target without reading its notes: Active, idle, and hybrid runs can move at different speeds.
  • Transcending because of one hard boss: Try ascending first. Only consider the larger reset if the full cycle is slowing down.

Frequently Asked Questions

At What Zone Should You First Transcend?

The usual first Transcendence point is just after you beat Woodchip, the Rodent, at Zone 300. The win unlocks the feature. You may push a little farther if progress is fast, but a long grind is rarely needed before your first reset.

Should I Transcend Right Away at Zone 300?

You can transcend soon after the boss falls. A few easy extra zones will not hurt, but the bigger gain comes from unlocking Ancient Souls and Outsiders. Check your reward, save your progress if possible, and reset when you are ready.

How Many Times Should I Ascend Before Transcending Again?

Early on, aim for about three or four ascensions that raise your next Ancient Soul reward. Do not count the recovery ascensions that leave it at +0. Once your TP nears 24%, use a calculator and your zone speed instead of this rule alone.

Should I Transcend If I Am Still Moving Fast?

Usually, no. If each ascension still brings strong gains, there may be more value in your current cycle. The first Transcendence is the key exception: unlocking Outsiders soon after Zone 300 is worth more than a long first push.

How Many Ancient Souls Should I Get Before Transcending?

There is no fixed number for every player. Check how many new Ancient Souls you can earn and how long it takes to earn them. A smaller reward from a quick cycle can be better than a larger reward that takes many extra hours.

Is Transcending Better Than Ascending?

Neither one is always better. Ascension helps you build Hero Souls and level Ancients within your current cycle. Transcendence starts a deeper cycle and gives you Ancient Souls for Outsiders. Use Ascension for a slow run and Transcendence for slow progress across many runs.

Should I Transcend at 24% Transcendent Power?

Not just because you reached 24%. That mark tells you the simple early-game rule is becoming less useful. Look at the Outsider calculator’s zone target, your Ancient Soul gains, and whether you can still keep two monsters per zone.

Do You Lose Everything When You Transcend?

No. You lose most run progress, including Hero Souls and Ancients, but you keep Ancient Souls, Outsiders, rubies, Auto Clickers, achievements, and mercenaries. Some saved features, such as purchased gilds, return over time rather than appearing at full strength right away.

Can an Outsider Calculator Tell Me When to Transcend?

It can suggest a target and help you spend Ancient Souls. But the estimate depends on the inputs and play style it assumes. Driej’s calculator bases its end-of-cycle estimates on active pushing, so check your own results before following the target.

Final Verdict: When Should You Transcend?

The best time to transcend in Clicker Heroes changes as you grow stronger.

First reset: Beat the Zone 300 boss, then transcend soon to unlock Outsiders.

Early and middle cycles: Wait for about three or four ascensions that add new Ancient Souls to your next reward.

Late game: At about 24% TP, look at calculator targets, zone speed, and monsters per zone rather than a fixed ascension count.

Most of all, watch how much progress you gain for your time. If another ascension still moves you forward quickly, keep playing. If a whole cycle barely helps, a well-timed Transcendence may be your best next move.
